Authorities continue their search for suspects after an early Thursday ambush shooting of two police officers in the racially torn community of Ferguson, Missouri

The two wounded police officers have been treated at a local hospital and released as the intense manhunt for the shooter or shooters continues. One of the officers, from St Louis County, was shot in the shoulder and another from Webster Groves was shot in the cheek. That bullet lodged near that officer’s ear.

The shootings occurred as the rally was dispersing from in front of the police headquarters around midnight just hours after news came out that the police chief quit his position at the department. Protesters scattered as gunfire rang out and police took up defensive positions with weapons drawn.

At a news conference, it was revealed that the department has leads that they are investigating. The department also says that they have casings that they have determined came from the shooter’s handgun.

Two men and a woman were detained and questioned after police raided a home just blocks from the scene of the shootings.
