Troopers report that a positive identification of the body discovered several miles outside of Gambell has still only produced inconclusive results, and the State Medical Examiner’s office is continuing in their efforts.

It is believed that the remains are those of 22-year-old Gladys Aningayou of Gambell. Aningayou has been missing since Thursday, May 12th. Her family reported her missing on Sunday, May 15th.

On Monday night, at 11 pm, troopers were notified that a body had been discovered several miles outside of Gambell. Nome-based troopers traveled to Gambell to conduct an investigation into the incident. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation also responded to assist.

On Wednesday, troopers reported that they had concluded the initial investigation at the scene. They also reported early in their investigation, that they had identified a person of interest in Aningayou’s disappearance and possible death.

But before they could contact that person of interest, that they identified as 37-year-old Benjamin Booshu, he committed suicide outside of his home. Witnesses were at the location at the time of his self-inflicted death.

An autopsy will be conducted on Booshu’s remains as the investigation into Aningayou’s and Booshu’s deaths continues.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
