Troopers began their investigation upon their arrival. Their investigation found that a 2 to 3-year-old female brown bear was found to be acting erratically by first attacking a vehicle, then a telephone pole, and then eventually attacked a man that was walking on the beach. That man suffered minor injuries to his arm.
Troopers immediately accessed the beach in an attempt to warn off other beach walkers of the threat in the area, as well as to locate the belligerent bear.
As troopers were walking near the tree line area where the bear was last seen by onlookers, the bear charged from the woods directly at the two troopers.
The two troopers took aim and dispatched the bear as it closed on them.
The Bear’s remains were released to a local charity.
