The Family of Douglas Alston Lohse request the honor of your presence at a ceremony of final disposition. A portion of Douglas’s ashes will be spread following the blessing of the fleet on Monday, May 25th. There will also be a memorial picnic between 1:30 and 4:00 at Pearson Cove Park, located at the end of Tagura Road.
Douglas A. Lohse was born to Herman Douglas Lohse and Lydia (Waln) Lohse on November 26th 1928 in Cordova, Alaska. He was one of four children. His brothers and sisters are Cecil Lohse, Donna Hunter and Shirley Heglin. Cecil and Donna preceded Douglas in death. Shirley still resides in Kodiak.
Doug has six children Douglas, Lydia, Donna, Renee, Raymond, and Leanna, grand children, great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Douglas worked in a myriad of trades in Kodiak, that included owning a restaurant and smoking salmon commercially to electronics. But his love was the sea. Douglas could and would navigate by the stars, a skill he would teach many. He would also later earn his Master’s License.
Douglas would move between Alaska and Washington. After a lifetime of working, He would move permanently to Washington and retire. During those years, Douglas enjoyed cooking, writing, and photography, his favorite hobbies. His poetry, photos and tasty meals delighted many.
Douglas passed away in Bothell Washington on December 28th, 2014, after a brief battle with cancer.
He will be sorely missed by many friends and family.
