Searchers in boats on Lake Clark have found items believed to have belonged to four people who were aboard an aircraft that had left Port Alsworth headed to Anchorage before disappearing on Wednesday.

The items, found floating in the water, were discovered in various locations on the lake to the north and east of Port Alsworth. Officials have yet to divulge details into the items found in the water.

The Piper PA-28, with its pilot, a passenger and his two children, left Port Alsworth at  approximately 10:30 am and was bound for Merrill Field in Anchorage with an ETA of around noon, but never arrived at its destination.

The Civil Air Patrol and the Air National Guard immediately took up the search for the aircraft. The 176th Wing, Alaska Air National Guard launched two C-130 aircraft, and the 212th Rescue Squadron placed a Guardian Angel team was placed aboard one. An HH-60 from the 210th Rescue Squadron was also launched and took up the search.

Air searchers focussed on the Lake Clark Pass area, were at times hampered by fog in the area, limiting their visibility. Aircraft searched through the night, and only returned in the early morning hours to re-fuel and swap out crews.

The 176th Wing continued the search on Thursday with multiple aircraft, with CAP joining in.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
