Washington, D.C. – The Alaska Congressional Delegation announced the following grants on Tuesday:
U.S. Department of Transportation
- $ 2,500,000 to the Alaska Railroad Corporation for the Seward Marine Terminal Expansion Project to develop a master plan which will cover conceptual/preliminary design of the port and upland support facilities.
U.S. Department of Agriculture – Rural Development
- $171,000 to Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council for providing emergency response, incident command systems, confined space awareness, hazardous waste regulations, oil spill awareness, and first aid/CPR training to Tribal Solid Waste Managers in rural Alaska and YRITWC staff.
- $94,000 to Yukon River Inter-Tribal Watershed Council for developing education outreach strategy and curriculums, organizing stakeholder training programs, and assistance to utilities operators to upgrade systems and promote the use of safe and compliant drinking water.
National Science Foundation
- $539,639 to University of Alaska Fairbanks for the “Collaborative Research: Linking Maps, Manuscripts, and Place Names Data to Improve Environmental Knowledge in Alaska” project.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
- $153,000 to Alaska Division of Public Health for injury surveillance – cooperative agreements for Head/Spinal Cord Injury Surveillance and Violence-Related Injuries.
- $2,554,500 to Cook Inlet Native Head Start to HSEHS 2014 for a five-year project period.
- $82,566 to Alaska State Department of Health and Social Services for preventative health and health services.
U.S. Department of Justice
- $304,994 to Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living in Fairbanks for the “Legal Assistance for Victims Grant Program” to strengthen civil and criminal legal assistance programs for adult and youth victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking who are seeking relief in legal matters arising as a consequence of that abuse or violence.
- $75,600 to Alaska Department of Public Safety Administrative Services for the “BJS FY 14 NICS Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP)” to develop a denied persons file within the Alaska Public Safety Information Network.
- $68,704 to Alaska Department of Public Safety Administrative Services to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
- $135,835 to University of Alaska Anchorage for the State Justice Statistics Program to assist with the development and implementation of the Alaska Sex Offender Recidivism project, which will directly contribute to Alaska’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and assess the criminal justice response to sexual violence.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
- $8,714,803 to North Pacific Research Board for research to assist fishery management and science in the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea.
- $387,312 to Alaska Department of Fish and Game for research and management activities funded by the U.S. section of the Pacific Salmon Commission to support abundance based management of Chinook salmon.
U.S. Economic Development Administration
- $70,000 to Kawerak, Inc. for the development and implementation of a comprehensive economic development strategy (CEDS) for the region served by Kawerak, Inc.,which is comprised of Brevig Mission, DiomedeElim, Gambell, Golovin, Koyuk, Nome, Shaktoolik, Stebbins, St. Michael, Unlakleet, Teller, Wales and White Mountain, cities and towns in Nome.
