U.S. Law Enforcement sources state that South Carolina mass shooter, Dylann Roof will face Federal Hate Crime charges for the killing of nine church-goers ar a bible study/prayer meeting in Charleston last month. He was indicted by a federal grand jury the Justice Department reports.
21-year-old Roof entered the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church on that mid-June evening, sat through an hour of study before pulling his weapon and opening fire on the roomful off African-American church-goers. During his shooting rampage, he told the victims that “I have to do it, You rape our women, and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.”
Prior to the shootings, Roof had posted multiple pictures of himself with his Glock .45 caliber pistol and a Confederate flag. He also posted a racist manifesto to his site. He modified that site just hours before carrying out the killings. “We have no skinheads, no real KKK, no one doing anything but talking on the internet,” he wrote. “Well someone has to have the bravery to take it to the real world, and I guess that has to be me.”
These dozens of new federal charges will be added to the nine counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder for the June 17th slayings.
His trial date in South Carolina is set for July 11th, 2016.
