25-year-old Fairbanks resident Eric Tidwell had been hiking in the Chena State Recreation Area, when he contacted his girlfriend on the evening of the 25th to inform her that he had “gone off the trail and was trying to find it again.”

Tidwell, who did not have overnight gear, had been due to return from his hiking trip on Monday evening.

Following the missing persons report, Alaska State troopers were able to make contact with Tidwell via his cell phone and an Alaska Wildlife Trooper helicopter was launched from Fairbanks and flew to his location. He was located at 11 AM in good condition. He was picked up by the helicopter returned to the trailhead.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
