A Fairbanks man was sentenced to eleven years in prison Wednesday in Fairbanks Superior Court following his guilty plea of Manslaughter in December.
It was in late June of 2012 that 57-year-old Rick Allen punched his girlfriend Ellen Florence Juneby Rada following an arguement about an old girlfriend of Allen’s. The incident occurred at a homeles camp near the Johansen Expressway.

Allen was originally charged with Second-Degree Murder but an agreement was made after Assistant District Attorney Scott Mattern cited concerns that at trial Allen may get acquitted or receive a lesser sentence in a Murder trial due to the intoxication level of the two witnesses to the incident and the victim’s pre-existing conditions.
Rada was found unconscious at the homeless camp on June 28th, 2012 and died at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage on July 8th without regaining consciousness.
In an unfortunate turn of events, 71-year-old Isaac Juneby from Eagle Village, who was Rada’s brother traveled to Anchorage to be with his sister and was struck and killed in a vehicle accident on July 1st, 2012. He had run a red light and was t-boned by another vehicle at an intersection. He had gone to Anchorage to make the decision to take her off of life-support.
