December 6, 2013, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered all state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday in commemoration of Pearl Harbor Day and to honor Americans who fought during World War II.
“On December 7, we pause to mark a significant turning point in our nation’s history, and to honor the memory and sacrifice of every American and service member who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor,” Governor Parnell said. “We will never forget their service to our country and the families they left behind. On this day we especially pay homage to the veterans stationed at Pearl Harbor, and this honor extends to all men and women who have fought and died to safeguard our nation.”
On December 7, all U.S. flags at federal, state, and public facilities nationwide will be flown at half-staff to mark Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. This coincides with President Obama’s recent order to lower all flags in honor of the late Nelson Mandela through sunset on Monday, December 9. All flags should be returned to full-staff on Tuesday.
