HEADQUARTERS, U.S. ARMY ALASKA, FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska – A Fort Wainwright soldier was found guilty Monday of multiple charges, including the premeditated murder of his son, in a military Court-Martial at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

Sgt. Nathaniel E. Ulroan, 24, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, was found guilty, pursuant to his pleas, of the following offenses: premeditated murder, kidnapping, two specifications of rape, one specification of sexual assault, eight specifications of assault, and communicating a threat.  These offenses stem from Ulroan’s April 3 murder of his three-year-old son, and various crimes stemming from his physical and sexual abuse of his wife during their marriage.

During the proceedings, Ulroan pled guilty to April 3 actions including striking his wife in the face with his fist and throwing her to the ground, threatening her with a knife, holding her against her will, strangling her and later stabbing his son to death. His wife was not at the home at the time of the assault on his son.

Ulroan also pled guilty to physically and sexually assaulting his wife in earlier incidents between 2011 and 2014.

The military judge sentenced Ulroan to reduction to E-1, total forfeitures of all pay and allowances, a dishonorable discharge and life without possibility of parole.  A pre-trial agreement limits Ulroan’s confinement to life with the eligibility of parole.

Ulroan, a native of Chevak, Alaska, is currently being held at the Northwest Joint Regional Confinement Facility located at JBLM.

Ulroan joined the Army in October 2008.  After completing Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., he was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., before being assigned to Fort Wainwright in December 2012 as a combat engineer.

While at JBLM, Ulroan deployed to Iraq for three months and Afghanistan for 11 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
