The investigation into the twin bombings that took place near the finish line of the world famous Boston Marathon is into its second day today. Very little is being released to the public.
One man was taken to and questioned at a local hospital after he was seen running from the scene as others involved in the carnage stood in shock. A quick-thinking civilian tackled and brought down the man as he attempted to exit the area.
Federal investigators questioned the man after the incident and he is under guard at a local hospital.
Investigators went to his apartment and conducted an investigation after a warrant was requested and issued. They could be seen leaving the building carrying plastic bags,, brown paper bags and a duffle as they concluded ttheir investigation there in the Revere District..
The area where the horrific blasts took place is still cordoned off today as investigators continue their work searching for clues as to the identity of the perpetrator or perpetrators. Law enforcement has stated that one of the bombs used appears to have been placed in a locked down pressure cooker, which was in turn placed in a backpack. A circuit board has also been located on the scene hinting that a timer was used to detonate the devices.
Investigators have appealed to the public for photographs and video that was taken at the marathon as they look for further clues. They have also accessed various surveillance cameras in the area as they continue their investigation.
The devices are being call “low explosive” by the authorities and it is said that items such as nails, bbs, and ball bearings were used as shrapnel in the devices.
President Obama addressed the nation after the tragedy. He told the American people that “We still do not know who did this or why. And people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts. But make no mistake — we will get to the bottom of this. And we will find out who did this; we’ll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups will feel the full weight of justice.”
The two bombs that exploded about 20 seconds apart is a common scenario for many of the bombings seen throughout the world and is a tactic that has been used time and again by extremists. Information came out early after the explosions saying that more unexploded bombs had been found by authorities yesterday. Those reports have now been shown to be unfounded.
Three people have thus far died as a result of the bombings, and at least 150 were injured. Many were seriously injured and reports told of people being brought into the medical tent set up for the marathon event with missing limbs.
There was no warning issued for the blasts, and no one has yet come forward claiming responsibilty for the carnage.
