Ketchikan Dog Attack Prompts Removal of Pit Bull

ruraltrooperAlaska State troopers and wildlife troopers in Ketchikan reported that animal control removed a pit bull from the area of Christopher Road on Monday after it attacked an elderly man out on a walk in that location.

Troopers received a call at 1:50 PM on Monday reporting the dog attack, and North Tongass EMS responded to the scene.

When troopers arrived at the scene, 70-year-old Jeff Rodger was already being treated by EMS for dog bites to both of his legs.

The dog bite victim reported to troopers that he was out on his daily walk when he was attacked by the dog, who was not restrained, on the street.

Troopers remained on the scene with the EMS until the arrival of animal control, who promptly removed the dog, that was still loose and barking.

Although the victim was treated by EMS, he refused transportation to the hospital and further treatment.
