On Friday evening, at 7:15 pm, Kodiak-based Alaska State Troopers were notified of a disturbance at a Kodiak residence and responded to the scene to find that the suspect, William "Billy" Yovino Jr, age 31, who had refused to leave prior a call to the troopers, had already left the scene.
Then, at 9:14 pm, another call came in from a woman saying that she had been assaulted by Yovino Jr.
Prior to the arrival of the troopers, Yovino Jr’s father, 58-year-old William “Billy” Yovino Sr, had intervened in the assault and allowed the woman to escape from the residence.
But, by the time that troopers had arrived at this second residence, Yovino Sr had barricaded the doorway to the residence and refused to allow the troopers access. The barricade was short-lived, and soon, troopers made entry into the home.
Once inside the home, troopers attempted to arrest the younger Yovino, but he fought with the arresting officers. As troopers attempted to detain the father, a fight broke out between the elder Yovino and troopers as well.
Eventually, after a brief scuffle, both Yovinos were subdued and transported to the Kodiak Jail, where the two were remanded on charges.
Yovino Jr was charged with Criminal Mischief IV, Assault IV (DV), Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment and Disorderly Conduct.
Yovino Sr was charged with Hindering Prosecution, two counts of Reckless Endangerment, two counts of Disorderly Conduct, two counts of Resisting Arrest, two counts of Assault on an Officer IV, and one count of Assault on an Officer III.
Both troopers suffered injuries in the brief fight, and were treated at the Providence Kodiak Island Hospital Emergency Room and released.
