A Kodiak woman was arrested on Wednesday after stealing a vehicle then taking Kodiak Police and Alaska State Troopers on a chase in Kodiak.

The woman, unidentified by authorities, was reported by a Kodiak man, who told the Kodiak Police Department that a blonde-haired woman got into his vehicle at the Kodiak Baptist Mission Day Care while he was dropping off his children at the Rezanof Drive facility. The report claimed that the woman locked the doors to the vehicle to deny the owner access then drove off with his vehicle.

A joint investigation between Kodiak Police and Alaska State Troopers was initiated and a search was begun. The vehicle was eventually located on Mission Raod and a pursuit of the vehicle was undertaken.

The vehicle chase lasted nineteen minutes and only came to an end after AST and Kodiak Police laid down spike strips and flattened the vehicle’s tires. But, even then, the 29-year-old woman was not ready to give up and refused to exit the vehicle. She was ultimately extricated from the 2007 Nissan Titan truck and taken into custody.

The driver was taken to the Kodiak Island Medical Center for medical treatment not associated with her arrest.

At the time of the report, AST were anticipating charges of Vehicle Theft I, Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer I, three counts of Assault III, Criminal Mischief III, Reckless Endangerment, and Reckless Driving to be forwarded to the Kodiak District Attorney’s office.

The investigation is continuing.
