In what police are calling a totally random act, a bizarre and horrendous act of brutal murder and sexual assault took place in the Mountain View area of Anchorage on Saturday.
It was on Saturday night that Anchorage Police arrested 24-year-old Jerry Andrew Active as he fled the murder and sexual assault scene in eastern Anchorage clad only in boxer shorts and socks.
Moments before, the residents of a ground-floor apartment in the neighborhood had arrived home after an evening at the movies to discover that their door was locked from the inside. The couple had gone out with their four-year-old son, leaving their grandparents, 90-year-old great grandmother and their two-year-old daughter at home.

After managing to gain access to the apartment from a window, they would find their grandparents, Touch Chea, 71, and his wife Sorn Sreap, 73, brutally murdered in the apartment. The elderly couple had been bludgeoned to death with a blunt object and Sorn had been raped.
Active was still in the home when the grandson, his pregnant wife and son entered the apartment. They found Active in the bedroom, naked, and sexually assaulting their two-year-old daughter.
The mother of the child immediately called 911 to report the ongoing incident. She described the assailant as naked and having several tattoos. All the while, the two attempted to keep Active from escaping. After a few minutes of fighting Active fled the apartment clad only in shorts and socks.
Officers located Active, and after some resistence they arrested him about a block away. He would not identify himself and would continue to be unidentified until Sunday morning. He was charged with two counts of Murder I, two counts of Murder II, Sexual Assault I, Sexual Abuse of a Minor I and Burglary.
By Sunday morning, it was realized that the man they had in custody had been released from the Anchorage Correctional Facility a scant twelve hours prior to carrying out the murders and sexual assaults in Mountain View approximately two miles away.
Investigators say that there is no apparent prior connection between the victims and Active and that the brutal incident was totally random.
Active had been in jail for a series of probation violations after being convicted in 2009 of Attempted Sexual Assault of an 11-year-old girl in Togiak. In that incident, he snuck into the home armed, and also assaulted three other people in the home. He was convicted of those crimes in September of 2010 in Dillingham court.
The bodies of the elderly couple were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. The young child was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
Active’s bail was set at $1.5 million and a court approved third party custodian.
