A criminal investigation into a bomb threat directed at the Nesbett Court building in Anchorage is underway after a bomb threat was called in on Thursday.

The Anchorage Police Department was contacted at 1:13 pm on Thursday. The anonymous caller reported that an acquaintance may be intending to detonate a bomb at the courthouse between H and I Street on 4th Avenue. The caller said that the acquaintance intended to detonate an explosive device at 3 pm yesterday.

The caller reported that the person was disgruntled by a recent court decision.

The Anchorage Police Department contacted the Judicial Service Unit of the Alaska State Troopers. After troopers received consent from the court system, the building’s entrances were secured.

Troopers and police began a search of the building. Three buildings, the Nesbett, Boney, and Snowden buildings were evacuated prior to 3 pm and a search carried out. After a thorough search, no explosive devices were located and the streets adjacent to the building were re-opened to traffic.

At 4 pm, court employees were allowed back into the buildings.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
