A climber lost his life after a fatal fall on Mount Yukla on Sunday according to the trooper dispatch.
A report went in to the Alaska State Troopers reporting a fatal fall from Mount Yukla on Sunday at 1:56 pm. According tothe report, 24-year-old Dasan Marshall of Portland, Oregon suffered a 1,000-foot fall while climbing on the mountain with a friend, five and a half miles from the Eagle River Nature Center.
Marshall was an avid outdoorsman and an accomplished climber. Marshall had come to Alaska for the climbing opportunities and took an a class in Alaska Pacific University’s Outdoor Program , where he took part in mountain, waterfall ice, and rock climbing.
Because of the treacherous terrain, AST contacted the Rescue Coordination Center, and a HH-60 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to recover the body.
There is no foul play suspected in Marshall’s fall. The State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage took possession of the remains for autopsy.
Next of kin has been notified.
