The caller related to troopers that the victim, Casey Cizek was trapped in his vehicle at the bottom of a 100-foot embankment near Peters Creek in Trapper Creek. The caller also informed troopers that Cizek had suffered from a bone protruding through his leg.

Trapper Creek Rescue was notified of the incident. Because of washed out roads in the area, the rescue team decided to access the scene via ATV. A LifeMed helicopter, assets from the Rescue Coordination Center and Alaska State Troopers also responded to the scene of the crash.

By the time rescuers had reached the scene, Cizek had extricated himself from the vehicle and crawled away to the bottom of a very steep ravine. Although alert, Cizek had suffered compound fractures to his leg and had also suffered broken ribs.

After RCC and LifeMed helicopters touched down in the area, RCC personnel, LifeMed personnel, and Rescuers from Trapper Creek hoisted Cizek from the ravine and onto the road using Trapper Creek Rescue equipment.

Cizek was transported a short distance to the LifeMed helicopter, where he was loaded up and transported to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of his serious injuries.

The trooper investigation reported that Cizek was en-route to a gold mine in the area when he lost control of his vehicle and left the roadway.
