Troopers report that with improved weather, they were finally able to respond to the community of Unalakleet to assist in the search of an elderly woman there that has been missing since Wednesday.

At 5:50 pm on Wednesday, troopers were informed that over 30 search and rescue volunteers had been scouring the Norton Sound village of Unalakleet looking for 74-year-old Vivian Foote. She had been “last seen walking near her residence,” troopers report.

Searchers checked door to door for Foote, who is known to have medical issues. Searchers looked throughout the village and the outlying areas as other searchers checked the fish camps and beaches in the area, in 40 mile per hour winds and blowing snow and ice fog.

Scores of volunteers took up the search again on Thursday, shoulder-to-shoulder checking all unoccupied buildings and vehicles in the still inclement weather, again with no positive results.

With improving weather searchers continue to seek the elderly woman by air and on the ground. Tomorrow, troopers will be bringing in three search dogs to further aid in the search.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
