During the early morning hours on Friday, Alaska State Troopers were informed that a 38-year-old man in that community had died as a direct result of a fight with another man in the village.
Immediately after receiving the notification of the incident at 1:30 am, troopers departed from Kotzebue to the village 70 miles to the southeast in a chartered aircraft, arriving there at 2:20 am.
Upon their arrival, troopers found that the suspect, 24-year-old Clive Cleveland, had been taken into custody by the Selawik Village Police Officer.
The initial investigation in Selawik found that C. Cleveland had gotten into a fight with Roscoe Cleveland at their shared residence, and during the altercation C. Cleveland stabbed and killed Roscoe Cleveland with a knife, the trooper dispatch reported.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]Clive Cleveland was transported to Kotzebue by troopers for arraignment, and Roscoe Cleveland’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
Clive Cleveland made his first appearance at the Kotzebue Courthouse at 10 am on Saturday on charges of Murder I, Murder II, and Assault III, all felonies. He was granted a Public Defender and housed at the Kotzebue Regional Jail. He will attend a preliminary hearing on November 1st.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adversal-468×60″]
