A Shungnak woman was arrested on Murder charges Wednesday after an early Christmas Eve dispute turned deadly and 25-year-old Emmalee Clark shot her cousin 33-Jeanelle Clark with a pistol, according to court documents.

Those documents stated that E. Clark shot J. Clark after a physical dispute in which J. Clark told her cousin to leave the four-plex that she had let her stay with her at. After the argument turned physical and the two fought on the floor, E. Clark let J. Clark loose at which time J. Clark kicked her. Enraged, E. Clark went to her luggage and retrieved her pistol then “walked over to Jeanelle Clark and shot her in the face,” according to the police report.

After the fatal altercation, E. Clark called police and informed them of the shooting. She answered the door with her hands in the air when they arrived.

E. Clark confessed to the killing according to the police.

E. Clark was arraigned in Fairbanks Court on the charge of Murder I via teleconference on Christmas Day.

E. Clark was assigned a public defender and her bail was set at $500,000 and a Court Approved Third Party Custodian by District Court Judge Patrick Hammers.

Clark has had at least three Assault convictions in the past four years as well as three disorderly conduct and one Reckless Endangerment charge in that time frame. She also has a couple of Alcohol Importation convictions in Western Alaska in that time.

E. Clark’s next court appearance is on January 2nd where she is scheduled to attend a Preliminary Hearing in this newest case.
