A 63-year-old Soldotna man was killed in an ATV accident on the Caribou Hills Trail system on Monday according to the Alaska State Troopers.
Alaska State Troopers reported that they received a call informing them of a fatal four-wheeler accident approximately six miles from the Waterhole Trail at 8:51 pm on Monday.
Donald Burns Jr of Soldotna was riding on a rough portion of the trail system on the Kenai Peninsula when he tried to avoid the deep mud in the center of the trail and instead “High marked” a muddy hill off to the side. When he did so, he fell from his ATV and the ATV slid on top of him, troopers report.
According to the report, Burns was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
Burns’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy and Burns’s next of kin were notified.
