At 2:26 am on Thursday morning, MATCOM was alerted of a driver traveling at speeds approaching 120 miles per hour on the Glenn Highway and troopers performed an assist to stop the vehicle, troopers reported.
A trooper observed the suspect vehicle, a white 2006 Audi, near the Knik River traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour and attempted a traffic stop. The driver ignored the trooper and continued at a high rate of speed to the Parks Highway.
Additional troopers had deployed to the Trunk Road area at the Glenn/Parks Highway Interchange and had deployed spike strips at that location. As the driver sped through the area, one of his tires was successfully deflated.
Troopers caught up to the driver, only identified as an Anchorage resident, when he stopped at the Seward Meridian Overpass on the Parks Highway. The driver exited his vehicle and “climbed halfway over the bridge rail while threatening to jump,” troopers reported. Additional troopers rushed in and were able to pull the man to safety and take him into custody.
The man was transported to the Mat-Su Regional Hospital on a Title 47. He was also charged with Fail to Stop.
The case has been forwarded to the Palmer District Attorney’s office for review.
