Following the death of the Fairbanks teen who was shot during a large party on Drake Street in Fairbanks, the juvenile who was previously remanded to the McLaughlin Youth Center has been waved out of the juvenile justice system and is now being prosecuted as an adult, the Alaska State Troopers revealed on Wednesday.
Troopers responded to the scene of a report of shots fired in Fairbanks at a large party on Drake Street early on Sunday morning at 3:07 am to find that a teenage female, revealed as 19-year-old Janet Barragan, had been shot. Barragan was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was then further transported to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage. Troopers were notified on Wednesday that Barragan had succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect, now identified as 17-year-old Lewis Harvin of Fort Wainwright, fled the scene prior to the arrival of the troopers. Anchorage Police would locate the suspect’s getaway vehicle at a residence in Anchorage the following evening, and both Harvin and a 19-year-old were taken into custody. Harvin was remanded to McLaughlin at that time while 19-year-old Levi Skulstad of Fairbanks was jailed on Hindering charges at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
Troopers have notified the District Attorney of Barragan’s death and Harvin has been charged with Assault I.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
