Alaska State Troopers made initial contact with 58-year-old Sutton resident Theodule LeJeune on Wednesday afternoon when troopers served Domestic Violence Exparte Orders to him.

Troopers served the papers to Lejeune through the window of the residence, he refused to leave the residence as ordered by the court. LeJeune went further into the home when troopers tried to persuade him to leave peacefully and re-emerged with a firearm which he pointed at the troopers. The troopers left the residence.
After that initial confrontation with LeJeune, Crisis Negotiation Team personnel attempted unsuccessfully to negotiate with LeJeune.
When troopers consulted with the Palmer Court judge regarding LeJeune’s non-compliance to the provisions of the Ex-Parte order that he leave the residence, the judge determined that he was not immediately required that he leave the residence if it could not be accomplished free of conflict.
Troopers departed from the residence, but continued Wednesday night and part of Thursday to try to get LeJeune to leave the home peacefully. Family members communicated with LeJeune encouraging him to comply with the court order.
On Thursday, troopers sought and obtained an arrest warrant for LeJeune for two counts of Assault III, violation of a DV Protective Order and Disorderly Conduct as well as a search warrant for the home.
On Thursday evening at 6:23 m, SERT and CNT personnel returned to the residence and contacted LeJeune by phone. LeJeune hung up on them.
According to the dispatch, SERT and CNT personnel continued to attempt to negotiate with LeJeune and also “attempted multiple times to disarm LeJeune with less lethal tools.” A short time later, LeJeune came out of the home with a firearm. Troopers say that using a Tactical Response Vehicle, SERT personnel attempted again with additional “less lethal tools” to disarm Lejeune. It is unknown what less lethal tools were used.
It was at that time that LeJeune opened fire on the troopers. A trooper returned fire, striking LeJeune. LeJeune died of his injuries at the scene. Next of kin were notified.
As per department policy, the officer involved in the shooting has been placed on three-day administrative leave. His name will be released after the completion of his leave.
The investigation into the incident is continuing.
