While on patrol in the western Alaska village of Togiak, a Togiak Security Officer saw a vehicle drive off the roadway.
The vehicle was not damaged. As the Togiak Security Officer approached the vehicle, the driver, Simeon Wassillie exited, and fled on foot. The security officer contacted the troopers and reported the incident at 5:50 am.
The Togiak VPSO was contacted, and he arrived on the scene and attended to the passenger of the vehicle, who appeared intoxicated but otherwise uninjured. The passenger was taken home to their residence.
The VPSO began a patrol through the area searching for Wassillie, who he believed was on foot. At 6:40 am, as the VPSO was turning his vehicle around, the patrol car was struck in the front end by an ATV traveling at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Togiak resident Simeon Wassillie, was thrown from the ATV and suffered serious facial injuries.
Wassillie was transported to the Togiak Clinic, then medevaced to Dillingham. From Dillingham, Wassillie was later transported to Anchorage for treatment of his injuries.
The VPSO was not injured in the incident. The patrol vehicle suffered very little damage, but the ATV incurred serious front end damage.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.
