On Monday, State Troopers arrested 27-year-old Eugene T. Morgan on weapons and assault charges.
Morgan’s path to jail began in the early morning hours of Saturday at 4:13 am. That was when a call went in to the Alaska State Troopers reporting that Morgan had threatened to shoot an Aniak man.
Troopers were unable to locate Morgan or the victim.
The victim would call later and report the threat. According to trooper reports, Morgan threatened to shoot the man, who turned away. The victim reported that as he turned and began walking away, Morgan placed a gun to the back of the man’s head and said, “Do you want to get shot?” The man said he continued to walk away.
Another call was made to the troopers at 2:20 pm later Saturday. In that call, made by an Aniak juvenile, it was related to the troopers that at about midnight of that day, he was drawn to an area by sounds of gunshots. When he arrived on the scene, he was met by an intoxicated Morgan. Morgan showed the juvenile a black semi-automatic .22 pistol.

It was reported that Morgan told the juvenile, “If you see me with this gun, you better get going.” It was then that the two went to the juvenile’s residence where Morgan proceeded to steal three weapons from the house. He took a pellet gun, a .243, and a lever action 30-30.
Later, at 4 am, the juvenile and another 18-year-old male came across Morgan again. They came within 6 feet of the Bethel man, who pointed the pistol at them. They turned and ran. As they were running away, they heard two shots in quick succession.
The juvenile would come upon Morgan again at 1 pm on Sunday. The juvenile reported to the troopers that Morgan said at this meeting, if he saw troopers, he would “shoot first,” because he hated troopers.
Troopers obtained a no bail arrest warrant for Morgan on Sunday. The warrant was issued for three counts of Assault III and one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons III.
Aniak Troopers could not locate Morgan and it was believed that he had departed by boat to Bethel.
On Monday, Morgan was located and arrested in Bethel and remanded to the Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center, where he is awaiting arraignment.
