Alaska State Troopers reported on Thursday, that on Monday night, a 72-year-old Rampart woman called in to report that “her son’s sled dogs had been shot in retaliation of a previous animal incident.”

Troopers with the Fairbanks-Rural Unit responded to the community on Wednesday to investigate the incident. The investigation would reveal that 35-year-old Benjamin Newman of Rampart “went onto private property and shot three sled dogs that were tied up.”

Troopers list charges of Animal Cruelty x3, Criminal Trespass II, and Criminal Mischief IV in the case, but, online court records show no charges as yet.

Troopers say that “The value of the three lead dogs is currently trying to be determined.”
