Although “nothing suspicious was observed” during the death investigation of a crew member aboard the Alaska Dream, a fishing vessel out of Kodiak, that was headed for fishing grounds at the south end of the island, the crew members remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy on Saturday.

It was on Saturday morning at 11:20 am that Alaska State Troopers were notified of the death of a crew member aboard the 58-foot F/V Alaskan Dream, who was identified by troopers as 29-year-old Florida resident Sean O’Callahan. The vessel was underway to take part in fisheries on the south end of the island, but turned around upon the discovery of O’Callahan’s death. He was found deceased in his bunk aboard the vessel.

The cause of O’Callahan’s death is still unknown.

O’Callahan’s next of kin was notified of his passing, and they have announced that some of O’Callahan’s ashes will be scattered at the Harbor Pier in Kodiak. The remainder of his ashes will be scattered at the pier outside of Lynch’s Irish Pub in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

O’Callahan was a long-time fisherman in Alaska and took part in Halibut, Cod, Salmon and Crab fisheries in the state.
