At 2:53 pm on Friday, Alaska State Troopers responded to a call of a Burglary in progress at a North Pole residence. The owner had come home, opened his door and heard noises inside, and so, called troopers and waited outside for them.
When troopers arrived at the residence on Badger Road near Dennis Road, they established a perimeter, used a public address system to order the burglars out of the building, then deployed a tactical robot.
During that time, they observed the burglar, later identified as 36-year-old Jeremy Casey of Fairbanks, jump from the garage rooftop and flee on foot. Troopers quickly apprehended the fleeing burglar and he was arrested.
Meanwhile, a heating oil delivery driver, who was unaware of the burglary that was cut short by troopers, called in to the troopers to report a suspicious male walking near Tamarack Road.
Troopers responded to the area and detained the man, identified as 34-year-old Cody Ladig of Fairbanks. His shoe print matched those at the scene.
The subsequent trooper investigation implicated both men in the burglary. Their investigation revealed that the two men had forced open the front door of the residence and had collected dozens of items in garbage bags that they were going to remove from the house. Ladig had fled the house when the homeowner came into the house, but the other burglar, Casey, lingered at the scene.
Both men were transported to the fairbanks Correctional Center, where they were remanded on charges of Burglary I, Theft III, Attempted Theft II, Criminal Mischief IV and Conspiracy.
