Alaska State Troopers in Talkeetna were alerted of two missing ATV riders at 4 pm on Sunday afternoon. The call went in to report that two men, 64-year-old James “Bill” Livesay II, and 33-year-old James “Jay” Livesay III, both of Anchorage, were overdue from a day outing while out riding ATVs to a cabin in the Shulin Lake area.
The call went in to troopers after a family friend failed to locate the overdue bikers utilizing an aircraft and another ATV. The friend had no success via air in locating the riders, but located the two abandoned ATVs. An attempt to find the two using an ATV was also unsuccessful because of soggy terrain.
After requesting and getting AST assistance, the troopers located the two men at approximately 8:23 pm utilizing Helo-3.
Because of the terrain that also hindered the men’s friend, the troopers were unable to land and retrieve the men. But, they were successful in relaying the direction of the cabin to the two men. It was determined that the men were in good enough health to make it to the location.
At 10:10 pm, the two men were reported to have made it to the cabin in good health.
By that time, all state resources were out of the field and accounted for.
