Two Arrested at Hilltop Chalet after Shots-Fired Pursuit

Two men were placed under arrest in reference to a Hillside burglary and vehicle vandalisms in which the fleeing suspects reportedly fired shots at officers in pursuit on Sunday.

According to the APD Nixle release, APD responded to the burglary on the 9400 block of Slalom Drive, as officers responded to the location, additional calls reporting vehicles being vandalized and shots fired in the area were received by APD.

As police were responding, they observed a suspect vehicle driving down Schuss Drive and attempted contact. But, as they did so, shots rang out as the suspected in the vehicle opened fire on police.

Officer continued the pursuit of the vehicle that soon crashed near Hilltop. But, before they could be apprehended, the two suspects fled on foot.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]A perimeter was set up and APD began their search. Staff at Hilltop Ski were also contacted and advised to remain in the chalet for their safety. During the process, two persons fitting the suspect’s description entered the chalet. They were contacted, and taken into custody without incident, APD reported.

Police identified the two suspects as 29-year-old Austin Carroll and 28-year-old Dante Padilla. Carroll  was charged with Assault III, and two counts of Theft II. Padilla was charged with Assault III, two counts of Theft II and Failure to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer.

The chalet was re-opened a short time later.
