Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak report that US Marshals with the US Marshals Alaska Fugitive Task Force assisted troopers in locating and arresting a Kodiak man who was wanted on several felony charges on Saturday.

US Marshals traveled to Kodiak on January 13 to assist in the arrest of 49-year-old Mark Benton, who had a $75,000 arrest warrant issued for him on the charges of Assault II, Assault III x6, Assault IV, Kidnapping, Misconduct Involving Weapons III, and Violating Conditions of Release x9.

The AFTF and troopers located Benton at an address on Parkside Drive and promptly placed him under arrest.

On January 8, at approximately 6:45 PM, troopers responded to a report of a disturbance at a Selief Lane residence to conduct an investigation after a victim called in to report Benton. The resulting investigation found that Benton had pointed a weapon at one victim and assaulted another person that he had a relationship with, before forcing one victim into a vehicle and attempting to keep them from leaving. That person was able to escape from the vehicle and flee to a nearby house where they called 911.

After his arrest, Benton was transported to the Kodiak Jail where he was remanded. His first court appearance was made in Kodiak Superior Court on Tuesday morning. Benton remains in custody and  he has a bail hearing scheduled for January 21st.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
