A summons was issued to two Fairbanks residents on Tuesday for alleged violations in a 2013 moose hunt that took place on Chena Hot Springs Road where the two men and their sons participated in the hunt together.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers issued summons to 36-year-old Michael Annunzato and 44-year-old William Hughes on January 14th after an investigation of their hunt utilizing a antlerless moose permit.
It was in September, according to Alaska Wildlife Troopers, while the four were hunting together in interior Alaska, that Annunziato directed his son to shoot a cow moose. But, the cow moose that Annunziato’s minor son shot had a calf. Permit conditions state that cow moose with calves are not permitted in the antlerless moose hunt.
When witnesses at the scene, near mile 37.5 of Chena Hot Springs Road, confronted the hunting party and questioned them about the illegal cow moose with a calf that was shot, Annunziato and Hughes abandoned the dead moose and left it to waste according to the trooper dispatch.
It is highly unlikely that the calf survived the upcoming winter without its mother.
A hearing date and bail on the offense is yet to be determined.
