It was announced by the Department of Justice on Tuesday that Fairbanks man, Etienne Devoe, age 41, was convicted on charges of cocaine possession with intent to distribute on Thursday of last week. After a short trial on Thursday, a jury of 10 women and two men found Devoe Guilty of the charges after only three hours of deliberation.
The case had its beginnings at 6 am on February 1st, 2012 when federal officers executed a search warrant in Fairbanks in connection with a drug conspiracy indictment. Devoe was not named as a co-conspirator in that case, he was at the residence at the time of the warrant execution and was found to be in possession of six ounces of powder cocaine and a small amount of crack cocaine. The drugs were found in a duffle bag in the room where Devoe was sleeping. In his pants, agents found $2,240 bundled in $1,000 quantities.
Devoe is still awaiting trial on a separate case involving federal drug conspiracy. The trial date for that case is August 11th, 2014. Devoe was apprehended in September after being on the run since July.
