Fatal Accident on Glenn Highway Closes Lane for Eight Hours

One lane of the Glenn Highway closed for over eight hours near mile 122 after a fatal accident resulting from a collision between a Winnebago and a Pickup truck on Thursday afternoon.

It was at 3:21 pm that troopers responded to mile 122 of the highway after a report was received of a accident there.

Troopers arrived to find 67-year-old Cesar Justo Lao-Ing dead at the scene as a result of a head-on collision. 

The trooper investigation revealed that Lao-Ing was traveling southbound on the Glenn Highway when he crossed over into the northbound lane directly in the path of a 2014 Winnebago Motor-home driven by 69-year-old Donna, Texas man, William Glen Briggs. The resulting head-on collision totaled both vehicles and resulted in serious injuries to Briggs, minor injuries to 68-year-old passenger Linda Briggs and the death of Lao-Ing. Lao-Ing was pronounced deceased at the scene.

William Briggs was medevaced by LifeMed helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical  Center, Linda Briggs was medevaced by fixed wing aircraft to the same location.

Kehl’s Mortuary Service responded for Lao-Ing’s remains and transported them to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy. Lao-Ing’s next of kin was notified of his death.

All occupants were wearing seat-belts at the time of the incident.

Both lanes were re-opened by 11:41 pm.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
