An ‘after the fact’ investigation conducted by the Alaska State Troopers after receiving a report of a vehicle accident at 11:15 pm on Tuesday resulted in the arrest of a Wasilla man on charges of DUI, Child Endangerment, Criminal Mischief and Failure to Report a vehicle accident, the trooper dispatch states.
The trooper investigation, after a report was called in, revealed that 42-year-old Freeman Howes of Wasilla, while driving under the influence, drove his gray 2012 Dodge pickup off the road and through a private fence on Tuesday evening. After crashing through the fence, Howes ran into a telephone junction box.
It is estimated that Howes did approximately $700 worth of damage before leaving the scene without reporting the accident. The pickup suffered approximately $5,000 worth of damage.
As the troopers continued their investigation, they found that Howe had two children under the age of ten with him at the time of the accident. It was found that Howes, because he was too intoxicated, was too impaired to properly care for the children.
Troopers arrested Howes at his home and he was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded. Howe’s bail was set at $5,000 and a required court approved third party custodian.
Howe’s vehicle was impounded from the residence for further investigation.
