A Tuluksak man was arrested on arson charges on Tuesday after troopers received a report of a residential fire in the village of Kwethluk, according to the trooper dispatch.
21-year-old Ferdinand Andrew was questioned and arrested by troopers after they conducted an investigation at the scene.
The trooper investigation revealed that Andrew had splashed gasoline on the exterior door of the residence after becoming upset with the occupants of the house and couldn’t gain entry. The fire was extinguished before it caused significant damage to the home. No injuries were reported. A plastic container containing gasoline was recovered at the scene.
When troopers contacted Andrew, he told troopers that “he was upset and intoxicated and may have started the fire,” according to troopers. When contacted Andrew was still wearing the same clothing as was described by the witnesses to the incident.
An investigation into Andrews past criminal history would find that he was on conditions of release in a previous assault case and was not to consume alcohol.
Andrew was transported to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center in Bethel where he was remanded on charges of Arson II and Violating Conditions of Release.
