At 4 am on Saturday morning, a member of the Alaska State Troopers Criminal Suppression Unit responded to an alarm at the Little Millers Ice Cream and Espresso Shop on Bogard Road in Wasilla.

When authorities arrived at the scene a male suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Chad Kreftmeyer of Wasilla, jumped out of a broken window at which time, “a foot chase ensued,” trooper dispatch reports.

A Wasilla Police Department K-9 Unit was called in, and K-9 “Marshal” took up the search in the area the suspect was believed to be hiding. Soon, “Marshal” located Kreftmeyer hiding behind a pile of tires in a wooded area near the crime scene.

The trooper investigation at the scene would reveal that Kreftmeyer had forced his way into the building by breaking a window. Kreftmeyer caused approximately $750 worth of damage to the establishment as he searched for and stole keys for the building.

Further investigation would find that Kreftmeyer also had a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear on the original charge of Theft IV.

Kreftmeyer was arrested and charged with Burglary II, Criminal Mischief III, Possession of Burglary Tools and Theft IV. He was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded to await arraignment.
