US attorney Karen L. Loeffler of the US Justice Department announced on Monday that a federal grand jury convened on March 16th and handed down two separate indictments  for two Kodiak brothers, 49-year-old Mark Benton and 55-year-old David Benton for federal firearms and drug trafficking crimes.

Mark Benton was the subject of the manhunt by Alaska State troopers in US marshals in mid-January following an incident five days earlier on January 8. He was apprehended on January 13. Mark Benton had a $75,000 arrest warrant issued against him on multiple counts of assault, kidnapping, misconduct involving weapons as well as violating conditions of his release.

The Charges are in connection with an investigation that was initiated on the evening of January 8, after troopers responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Selief Lane in Kodiak. it was then that troopers received a call from Benton’s victim who reported that he had pointed the weapon at one victim and assaulted another, before forcing the complaint and into a vehicle and keeping her from leaving. She was able to escape from the vehicle, and flee to a nearby house and called 911.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]

On January 26th, Alaska State troopers in Kodiak went to the residence of David Benton and executed a search warrant “pursuant to his brother’s ongoing assault investigation.” During the investigation it was found that David Benton “was in possession of a large amount of suspected methamphetamine.” David Benton was promptly placed under arrest and transported to the Kodiak city jail where he was remanded on charges of MICS III.

While the US Department of Justice has taken up the firearm and drug trafficking charges, Mark Benton is still currently charged by the state of Alaska for kidnapping, assault, and misconduct involving weapons charges while his brother David is currently facing State charges of misconduct involving controlled substances.
