DELTA JUNCTION- Early this morning, at 12:09am, Alaska State Troopers received a call from a caller at the Delta State Recreational Campground at mile 267 of the Richardson. The caller reported an intoxicated man walking around discharging a firearm.
A Trooper arrived at the scene at approximately 12:15am. As he exited his vehicle, an onlooker pointed out the suspect, 28 year old Timothy J. Fritzgerald, to him. The trooper observed Fritzgerald in a prone position, aiming his firearm at the trooper. The trooper drew and fired on Fritzgerald.
The suspect was wounded. He was taken to the Delta Family Medical Center for initial treatment then sent on to Bassett Army hospital for continued treatment.
The name of the trooper, as is policy, will not be released until Thursday morning. The investigation into the shooting is underway. It is being conducted by the Alaska Bureau of Investigations.
The suspect, Timothy Fritzgerald was charged with Assault in the Third Degree and booked into Fairbanks Correctional Center after his release from Bassett Army Hospital.
