Zirkle is out of the hometown of one of the original mushers that transported serum in 1925.
Kaltag was home to Edgar Kalland, he transported the diptheria serum on the trail in what is now the most major event in the state of Alaska.
Zirkle is now plowing her way to the Bering Sea Coast and the last third of “The Last Great Race. Weather conditions on the coast are 15 knots out of the northwest. She will have wind in her face for the next two days.
Meanwhile the other leaders of the pack are still in Kaltag and have yet to leave. John Baker has been in the community for all of 3 hours and so has Mitch Seavey.
