On Wednesday evening, according to Alaska State troopers from Emmonak, an intoxicated Kevin Patrick Jr was driving his snow machine recklessly through Alakanuk.
Alakanuk police attempted to stop 41-year-old Patrick several times during the period that he was driving recklessly. On one occasion, while trying to remove him from his snow machine, Patrick attempted to run over the officer.
The Alaska State Troopers in Emmonak were notified of the incidences involving Patrick. Troopers responded at 740 pm Wednesday. An Alakanuk Tribal Officer, Alakanuk Police, and the Alaska State Troopers found Patrick at his home, where he was arrested for Assault III on a Police Officer, Felony Elude and Evade, and DUI.
Patrick’s snow machine was impounded and Patrick was transported to the Emmonak jail and bail was set at $100,000.
Situated at the east entrance of Alakanuk Pass, on the southern channel of the Yukon River, Alakanuk has a population estimated at 683. The community is 8 miles to the southwest of Emmonak. The three-mile-long village is 162 air miles from Bethel.
