On Sunday night Anchorage police responded to an address on the 4900-block of 43rd Avenue after a call reporting a shooting at that location around 9 pm.
When officers arrived they found an adult male and his child suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation opened at the scene found that the unidentified suspect entered the apartment where the adult male and child were at and got into an argument with the adult and both men opened fire. The adult victim was shot in the upper body while the child was shot in the lower body. It is currently unknown who fired the bullet that struck the juvenile.
The shooting suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival and police initiated an extensive search that included a drone and a K9 unit in the Vance/Checkmate Drive area. The suspect was not located. The motive for the shootings is under investigation.
Police at the UAA campus isued an email to students to keep an eye out for the suspect described as wearing a tan Carhartt jacket and black pants armed with a handgun. They reported that he was last seen going towards the trails east of the campus.
The Crime Scene Team was called in to process the apartment.
APD asks that “Anyone with information regarding this incident, to include surveillance footage, to contact APD Dispatch at 3-1-1 (option #1) or 907-786-8900 (option #0).” They also suggest that “To remain anonymous, a tip may be submitted online at www.AnchorageCrimeStoppers.com.”
