ANCHORAGE – Friday, members of the Backbone organization called on Alaskans to show their support for getting a fair return for Alaska’s oil resources, owned in common by all Alaskan, by attending rallies on April 4th at noon at locations across the state.
“The Legislature is on the brink of making a catastrophic mistake, giving away billions of dollars of oil tax revenues, and it’s up to the people to stop them,” said Malcolm Roberts and David Gottstein of Backbone. “Our elected officials need to know that Alaskans won’t stand for giving away the ‘maximum benefit’ of our resources to the Big 3 North Slope oil producers with no commitment for additional investment and exploration in return.”
“Stop the Giveaway” rallies are scheduled in Anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau. Organizers encourage Alaskans in other communities to gather at the same time and take photos to share on the Backbone Facebook page to show statewide opposition to the giveaway.
