Juneau based Taku Oil Sales, Inc has been sold to Crowley's Alaska fuel sales and distribution company CPD Alaska LLC according to a media release put out by Crowley on Thursday.
Juneau’s local fuel company, Taku, has been providing fuel to Juneau for more than fifty years after being founded in 1953 by Clarence E. Jacobsen. The company operated a 2.5 million-gallon bulk fuel strorage terminal, a deep-water marine fuel dock, and two service stations in the Juneau area.
Crowley says, “While the leadership at Taku will change, the company will continue to provide great products and services under the Taku brand name. The company’s 13 employees have been welcomed as new members of the Crowley team.”
Jeff Hansen, the president of Taku, will remain with the company for a short time to assist in the transition to Crowley ownership, then leave the oil business to pursue other interests. Hansen said of the sale to Crowley, “The owners of Taku Oil Sales are very happy to have made this arrangement with Crowley. We feel like it is the best thing that could have happened for our employees and for the community of Juneau.”
Crowley’s Vice President for Petroleum Distribution called the purchase of Taku a great fit for the Crowley organization, saying, “The acquisition will allow us to grow in the southeast Alaska market and offer our existing customer base service in more areas. The Taku staff share similar values in safety, environmental protection and customer service with Crowley, and our team at CPD Alaska LLC has substantial resources to support them.”
Crowley purchased Anderes Oil in Kethikan on July ! and now operates 22 fuel terminals in western Alaska and the rail belt and employs over 265 people. Taku was Crtowleys second oil company purchase in southeast Alaska.
Crowley provides transportation, distribution and sales of petroleum products to more than 280 communities across Alaska. Crowley has and continues to support the energy industry on the North Slope with summer sealifts of large production modules and various marine transportation services.
At the southern terminus of the trans-Alaska oil pipeline, Crowley currently provides tanker escort and docking services in Valdez Harbor and Prince William Sound for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s Ship Escort/Response Vessel System.
As a privately held company, Crowley has been providing services around the globe for 120 years.
