Mat-Su Bureau of Highway Patrol and Palmer State Troopers responded to the scene of a head-on collision during the early morning hours of Saturday.
When they arrived on the scene at 4:55 am, they found that the driver of one of the vehicles had fled the scene into the woods.

Apparently, according to trooper reports of the incident, 32-year-old William Westphall of Anchorage was traveling north on KGB in his 1997 Ford Escort, when he lost control of hiss vehicle and crossed over the centerline. 56-year-old Rick James of Wasilla was traveling south on the same road in his 2000 Nissan Pickup. The two vehicle met in a head-on collision.
A Wasilla Police Department K-9 unit was called in to locate the fleeing Westphall and he was found a short time later.
Both James and Westphall sustained injuries in the crash and were taken by EMS on the scene to the Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Both parties reported wearing their seat belts.
The investigation into the incident are continuing and troopers suspect that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
