The Alaska Bureau of Investigation have made an arrest in the case of 13-year-old Mackenzie Howard in Kake, Alaska.
The 13-year-old girl was found dead in the entryway to a local church in Kake, Alaska on the night of the memorial services for former Sealaska boardmember Clarence Jackson. The services at the church were over when the body of M. Howard was found.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigations immediately treated the girl’s death as a homicide. The on-scene evidence collection done at the scene by the Alaska Scientific Crime Detection Laboratory and the results of the autopsy done by the State Medical Examiners Office confirmed the bureau’s decision.
For ten days, investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigations and the Alaska State Troopers from several communities in the state conducted interviews and evidence reviews. The end result was an arrest in the case.
Today, investigators announced that they have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the death of M. Howard. The youth has been transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Holding Facility in Ketchikan.
Because of the age of the juvenile involved in the incident, the name is not being released. The same is true of the charges being brought up against the 14-year-old.
