Emmonak Man in Jail after Yukon River Accident

rural trooperAn Alakanuk man is in jail with his bail set at $10,000 after a Saturday evening collision with a pedestrian while driving a four-wheeler on the Yukon River.

Alaska State Troopers in Emmonak were notified of injuries when pedestrian, 23-year-old Emmonak resident Jana Duny was struck by a Honda Foreman ATV while on the frozen river at 5:58 pm on Sunday.

The trooper investigation of the incident would reveal that Emmonak resident 19-year-old Christopher Gregory was traveling at a high rate of speed on the frozen river when he ran into Duny. After running into her, “Gregory stopped and apologized and drove off toward Alakanuk,” the trooper dispatch reports.

Duny was transported by snow machine to the Emmonak clinic. Duny’s injuries were deemed serious and she was transported to Anchorage for further treatment.

Gregory was arrested in Alakanuk and is awaiting arraignment on charges of Assault I and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
